As a person new to hiring a moving service, I contracted with this company based on it's good grade with the BBB. (I see it has since dropped! And deservedly so.)
My interstate moving experience was nothing short of horrendous.
The truck did not show up when scheduled and no one bothered to call and tell me they were delayed. It took me three phone calls to get someone on the line to help me. The movers ended up coming at a later date, throwing me off my travel schedule. Reliability and communication failure!
Money wise, they were far from honest, first coming up with various charges that were not in the quote, including $90 for a box to put my TV in. After and only AFTER they got my stuff on the truck did they tell me I'd be charged almost three times what they quoted me. Then they said if I wanted to have it weighed I could, but they would take away all my discounts and charge me more. I later asked for an actual weight bill and my request was ignored.
Despite a delivery date a little over a week away, it took them, in reality, well over a month get my things to me, and much of that time they were incommunicado.
In fact, I phoned them over and over and over and was always blocked by a receptionist who told me someone would call me back. But no one did. On the rare occasion when I DID get to talk to someone they could not give me specific information as to the whereabouts of my items and depending on who I spoke to, were anything from apologetic to downright rude. They were never helpful or informed. I can not express in words how disturbing it is to not be able to get a straight answer from someone at a company who has possession of all your earthly belongings. The "runaround" included telling me the truck broke down, that the driver was not responding, that they were just extra busy, the truck had not left California yet, the truck had left two weeks ago.... etc. It was never the same story twice.
At long last, after several false delivery date estimates, I was told to expect a delivery within the week. I had been told repeatedly that the driver would call 24-48 hours in advance so I could ask off work and be at home. Even that was a lie. The driver called me at 6pm Sunday night and told me he would arrive 7am Monday. I said I had to be at work at 7am Monday and I couldn't just miss work at my new job without pre-arranging it. The driver threateningly informed me that it was then or never because he had to keep driving! He ended up coming at MIDNIGHT Sunday night. And he arrived alone: just one person to unload all my stuff. My roommate had to help him move the piano. I returned some things to the truck that he unloaded that were not mine and then had to flag him down before he left as he had failed to unload all MY items. He explained that tags had fallen off and things were mixed up, etc. So much for organization.
Back when they loaded, they told me when they took some of my furniture apart upon loading, that the person delivering would put it all back together. He did not, of course, so I had to figure out how to put everything back together myself.
If you absolutely feel that you MUST use this company, then insist on talking to John. He was the only person I could ever even begin to get an active response from.
However, I would strongly urge you to learn from my mistake and select another moving service for your long distance move. Don't be fooled by the low estimates. It's just a bait and switch. You WILL pay more in the end anyway and what's worse, you will pay it for bad service.
